Ubisoft decided to let Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players purchases XP boosts for real money to help them level up faster.
XP Boosts: A tricky subject
Things like XP boosts in single-player games are a tricky subject. On one hand, you’re playing a single-player game so powering up faster doesn’t kill the enjoyment of the game. On the other hand, why would the devs need to give this option to you if they didn’t think a faster progression would be more enjoyable? Quite the dilemma, and Ubisoft has reached out to GameInformer to clarify why they added the XP boost:
As more and more post-launch content becomes available, we want to give the option to players to advance their progression. Utilities allow players who lack the time to fully explore the world of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to be able to acquire the game’s best gear, as well as other items, by accelerating their progress. For instance, these players can purchase maps that uncover some interesting locations in the world, but would still have to visit and play them to get their rewards.
Solid reasoning, still a frowned upon addition to a single-player game
Their reasoning is solid. Some have demanding jobs, families, and other things that require a lot of time. Most of us can’t sit at our computer all day and play video games. But then again, most gamers dislike these things, and I doubt Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players are happy that XP boosts are available. Especially since you purchase them with real money, not an in-game currency or anything like that.
If you’re an Assassin’s Creed Valhalla player, does the addition of the XP boosts bother you? Or will you just ignore them and continue playing as you usually do? I guess Ubisoft is doing a bit of back-and-forth, first giving away free in-game goodies for Valhalla players, and then they add XP boosts later on. A sneaky move.
Those that are unfamiliar with Valhalla can get their copy on HRK Game for an amazing price! The rest of the Assassin’s Creed franchise is also available for you to check out.
