An ARPG that is largely left unappreciated by many, Torchlight 2, is currently free for the taking on the Epic Games Store.
People talk about a lot of ARPGs today. Diablo 2 and 3, Path of Exile, Grim Dawn, and many others. But why don’t we talk about Torchlight 2? Colorful, lighthearted, and full of excellent ARPG design decisions. It’s a game that I played a lot way back in the day, always alternating between it and Path of Exile. Most games today try to copy Diablo 2 and its grim and drowsy atmosphere, desperate characters, and dark storyline. But, Torchlight 2 is a rainbow compared to those games.
Funny at times, incredibly charming, and painted in sparkly colors and colorful explosions. The gameplay formula is the same as with all ARPGs. Click on things until they die. Then look for the next item for your wacky build. Builds are interesting for the most part, but they aren’t anything special. Thankfully the game’s modding scene is full of gems that will turn Torchlight 2 into an experience that is full of replayability.
