Dota Underlord Is Struggling To Keep A Stable Playerbase
Dota Underlords’ peak player count is dropping intensely, which is not good news for Valve’s free-to-play auto-battler.
The explosion of the auto-battler genre is over at this point. Some titles managed to stay relevant, others did not. Seems like some Valve games have a problem with keeping a stable player base. First, we have Dota 2 with its declining player base, and now we have Dota Underlords. What’s happening? It seems like the focus on the Underlords and not the units themselves isn’t something the players like. Players on Reddit are mocking journalist sites for saying that a game is dead when it isn’t, even though the Dota Underlords’ peak player count has been steadily dropping since June 2019.
It’s known that Valve is pulling developers to work on Half-Life: Alyx, and most of their games aren’t getting steady updates. Is that why these games are losing their fans? Perhaps, or maybe they’re just bad. Dota Underlords isn’t that bad, but Riot’s Teamfight Tactics seems to be doing much better than Valve’s auto-battler, as some sites report that 33 million people play it each month. Is the interest in this newly found genre already fading or is Dota Underlord just not appealing enough?
Can these Valve titles attract new players in the future, or will they end up like Artifact? Leave behind your thoughts in the comments section down below!
