AoW: Planetfall just came out and released the very first expansion that, of course, adds an evil robotic faction that isn’t Necrons.
Cyborg snakes, giant mechanized harbingers of death and destruction, AND a large base resembling a pyramid? Hold on a second. AoW: Planetfall, I appreciate you and your unique blend of 4X grand strategy with turn-based combat. But did you have to so nonchalantly copy the Necrons from Warhammer 40K? There are almost completely the same, these ones just went with a happier color, a warm sea blue. Don’t even ask if that’s official color, because I say it is.
Despite the obvious similarities in both look and gameplay, this Age of Wonders expansions adds a lot of stellar content to an already solid game. There are two new campaigns with 10+ hours of gameplay for us to enjoy. Naturally, new technology that lets us drain the very essence of our foes is also available. Over 30+ sites can be visited by players. If you can overcome the obstacles waiting for you there, your faction will get an immensely powerful reward. You can also find awesome and extremely old secrets. Who doesn’t like ancient secrets?
That is not all. Naturally, new foes are lying in wait. These include robo-assassins, Megasow, and Piglets. These last ones may not sound dangerous, but these hideous and menacing mutated pigs are a terror-inducing threat. Watch the trailer and see for yourself! Even players that don’t purchase the expansion get some content, free of charge. You can check all of this out on the expansions’ Steam page.
