Shenmue 3 fans can at least be satisfied with the fact that Ys Net and Deep Silver have noticed the fan outrage due to the exclusivity deal.
It’s pretty standard these days for developers to switch up on their fans. They let you think their game is going to be sold on multiple digital distribution platforms only for you to find out that the title in question ended up being an Epic Store exclusive. This happened to multiple titles, Phoenix Point being one of the most severe cases, and now we have Shenmue 3 to add to that list. As expected, this made the fans and backers of the game extremely angry.
At least now we know that Ys Net and Deep Silver aren’t ignoring all the hate going their way. They’re well aware of it, as they said in this post:
We want to make sure that the Backers are aware that we are listening to their concerns. We kindly ask all our fans to have some patience, we are currently at E3 demoing the game and need to get back to our respective offices to assess the situation and together find a way forward to justify the trust you placed in us.
So, they have to assess the situation.
It’s quite obvious to see what is making the fans angry. Everyone was promised a Steam release, and all of a sudden comes a 1-year Epic Store exclusivity. There’s nothing to assess there, just do what you promised to do. But, that is going to be hard since that deal has already been made.
For now, we have to wait and see how this whole thing is going to turn out.
