New Mortal Kombat Movie Arrives In 2021
The Mortal Kombat movies have always been cheesy and hilarious, so will the new one be the same or will it take itself more seriously?
The entire Mortal Kombat franchise was never good material for a movie adaptation. Why? Maybe because before it basically had several ninja dudes that just had different color pallets for their outfits. And the storylines have always been insane as they can get. Of course, that changed during the past few years and the new games that fleshed out a lot of the background characters. As far as the story goes now, its still mostly about good guys and bad guys trying to rip each other’s spine out. Makes for one hell of a spectacle in a video game, but it doesn’t translate all that well into a movie.
Maybe the Mortal Kombat live-action adaptation that’s coming in 2021 is going to be different. Then again, have we ever received a movie that was based on a video game that wasn’t a complete and utter failure? Except for Pokémon Detective Pikachu, which was carried by Reynold’s charismatic performance and the stunning worldbuilding. Will this movie have these things as well? Strong lead characters and a world that was ingeniously crafted by the writers? Who knows at this point.
Deadline reported that the release date for the movie is the year 2021. Simon McQuid and Greg Russo are somehow involved, so we shouldn’t lose hope quite yet. It is a reboot, so who knows which versions of the famous character rooter we’re getting. One of your personal wishes is to see Noob Saibot while he was still Sub-Zero, and then have that translate into him confronting his younger brother that took up his mantle. We’re more likely to see people like Raiden, Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, Scorpion, and others before someone like Noob Saibot makes a debut.
No one has high expectations for this movie, but that’s exactly why it has the chance to impress us. It just has to avoid being complete trash, which is hard for movie that are based on video games.
