Microsoft Teasing More Xbox One Collaborations With Nintendo Switch
One of the biggest pushes in terms of gaming last year wasn’t about a singular console or gaming title, but rather, it was the desire for Cross-Play to not only become more prominent, but to be a part of all consoles and PC. While Cross-Play had happened on some consoles, and PC, the PS4 was holding everyone up in terms of progress. But Microsoft and Nintendo took that as an opportunity to promote the Cross-Play between the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch.
And now, with GDC on the way, Microsoft is teasing that even more Cross-Play collaborations like they did with MineCraft are coming, and coming soon. A panel lists the following:
“Developers will be able to bake cross-platform Xbox Live achievements, social systems, and multiplayer, into games built for mobile devices and Nintendo Switch, as part of its division-wide effort to grow Xbox Live’s userbase.”
They went on to note how 2019 was going to be an even bigger year for Xbox Live:
“Now Xbox Live is about to get MUCH bigger,” the GDC 2019 listing said. “Xbox Live is expanding from 400M gaming devices and a reach to over 68M active players to over 2B devices with the release of our new cross-platform XDK. Game services engineers looking to save time & expand their customer base by letting Microsoft managed game services handle social, communication, and multiplayer interactions across billions of screens.”
Now at present, only certain games have Cross-Play abilities like Minecraft, Fortnite, and a few others. If this is to be read like it sounds, it means that even more games that are on Xbox and the Switch will become Cross-Play compatible with one another. But with ones?
Furthermore, the question of Sony and what they’re intending to do is still very much up in the air.
