Bethesda took an interesting approach to cheating in Fallout 76, giving cheaters the option of writing an essay about why cheating is bad in order to get their account back.
Cheating in online games is often dealt with swiftly and mercilessly. You get banned and that’s it, your account is gone. That’s what most of these people deserve since everyone knows that cheating gets you banned. But, Bethesda wants to give these types of players a second chance of sorts. If you got banned in Fallout 76, you can write an essay on why cheating is bad (why “the use of third-party cheat software is detrimental to an online game community”).
We talked about Fallout 76 a lot, mostly in a negative way, as the game seems to be surrounded by negativity. This is one of the first time we are covering this game and the subject is positive, in a way. Do cheaters really deserve a second chance? That’s up for debate, but it’s cool to see this kind of system being used. We didn’t believe it when we first read about it in this PC Gamer article, but it seems like it’s really true.
You write about why cheating is bad for a game, and maybe you get your account back. Seems like a pretty fair deal to us. It lets the devs know that a player is willing to correct their ways, and also the player can understand more why cheating hurts the game when they write their essay about it.
