Spider-Man Tops List Of Japanese Devs Favorite 2018 Titles

We are just days away from the end of 2018, and the promise of many things to come in 2019. But, many are still looking back at the year that was and seeking truth in what was the best game of the year. Much like 2017 (which many consider one of the best gaming years in recent memory), there were plenty of good titles on many systems in 2018. And what was the favorite is very much subjective. So imagine many’s surprise when Spider-Man topped the charts in regards to Japanese developers picks.

This all happened when Famitsu decided to interview 128 Japanese developers to see what their favorite games of 2018 were. They revealed the Top 30 games, and Spider-Man was on top:

1. Marvel’s Spider-Man
2. Monster Hunter: World
3. Detroit: Become Human
4. Red Dead Redemption 2
5. God of War
6. Octopath Traveler
7. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
8. Fortnite
9. Conan Exiles
10. Splatoon 2
11. Astro Bot: Rescue Mission
12. Dead by Daylight
13. Fate/Grand Order
14. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
15. Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection
16. Cities: Skylines
17. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
18. Dragon Quest Rivals
19. Dungeon Maker
20. Kyoutou Kotoba RPG Kotodaman
21. Zanki Zero: Last Beginning
22. Super Mario Party
23. Border Break
24. Teku-Teku Teku-Teku
25. NieR: Automata
26. Assassin’s Creed Origins
27. Clash Royale
28. Dead Cells
29. Far Cry 5
30. Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle

God Of War 4

This is surprising for many reasons. Not the least of which is that Spidey is an American character, and the game was made by the time at Insomniac, who is in the US. Meanwhile, the Japanese born and developed Monster Hunter World was at No.2 on the list, despite Monster Hunter being one of the most popular video game franchises in all of Japan.

Add to that, Detroit: Become Human was at No.3, which many in the US and abroad thought was a decent game, but not the best out there.

Just goes to show that every person has different views on things.
