Insomniac Games Fires Back Over Spider-Man Controversy
The relationship between video game developer and video game is often defined with a lot of love and respect. Mainly because the video game developer will go all out to try and make a video game that the gamer will love, and in return, the gamer will love what the devs did and be grateful for the good/great/awesome title. However, in recent years especially, there are times that fans can push the limits of their relationships in the worst way, and a recent case came in the Spider-Man title by Insomniac Games.
To refresh, the Spider-Man title was a near masterpiece by Insomniac, and one of the coolest features that everyone agrees is great is that you unlock dozens of cool Spidey suits to wear. They come from the comics, the TV shows, and even the movies. But, a big request that wasn’t delivered yet was the Sam Raimi suit from the original live-action trilogy of films.
However, recently, it was finally delivered. But, before that point, fans criticized, chastised, and even threatened Insomniac over the “omission’ because they “weren’t listening to fans. Though Insomniac replied to these comments earlier, another member of the team, the Community Manager, spoke out about this on Twitter:
Passionate is not an excuse for harassment.
Having paid for a piece of software or a service does not entitle you to be a jerk.
You are not always right.
He went on to note:
Just know things take a LONG time sometimes (months and months!) and even then go down to the literal wire.
We obviously never stopped listening.
He, James Stevenson, is right, just because we buy a video game doesn’t mean that we have the right to judge what is or isn’t in it. We are to be grateful for whatever is in the game, and the work that went into it. Being toxic helps no one.
