Anthem May Not Be As “Rewarding” Played Alone
There’s a bit of a debate going on right now in the world of gaming as to whether more games should be focused on multiplayer aspects, or whether it should be balanced between multiplayer and singleplayer aspects. Where you stand merely depends on how you play video games to be honest. For Bioware, they’ve mainly dabbled in singleplayer RPGs with only a touch of multiplayer. But with their upcoming game Anthem, they’re focusing more on multiplayer in more ways than one.
For while Anthem can be played completely solo, it’s encouraged that you play it with multiple people for the full experience. Even the team warns that if you play it alone, you may not get everything that it offers:
“This is launching a new IP for EA, for BioWare, and we’re super proud of it,” developer Thomas Singleton mentioned. “We’re excited because we’re bringing connectivity and co-op environmental gameplay to the game along with great storytelling and that’s rarely done. We’re pushing team dynamics, that’s where the game really begins to sell. Where the product shines is playing as that squad, you’re working together as a unit to go and conquer various missions. If you want to play the experience solo that’s your option, it probably won’t be as rewarding, you won’t have that team dynamic. The game will scale based on whether you’re by yourself or playing with three other people.”
Now, again, this isn’t to say you can’t play the game alone, but for the most fun, it’s important to try and play it with others. This also might be a good idea because of how big and chaotic the world of Anthem is supposed to be.
We’ll have to see though how it all plays out, and how gamers react to it when the title arrives next February.
