Reggie Fils-Aime Talks Unity At The Game Awards
It’s been over a week since The Game Awards had its most successful show ever. Doubling the viewership that they had at last years show. And in that week, gamers have been talking about all sorts of key moments from the show, including one of the most surprising moments in gaming history. No, not Joker in Super Smash Bros, but rather, having Phil Spencer of Microsoft, Shawn Layden of Sony, and Reggie Fils-Aime of Nintendo coming onto the stage together to promote the future of video games.
This was a very inspiring moment. Why? Well, because the fans of these three companies like to promote the “console war” aspect of things, and say that these three don’t like each other because they’re rivals. But as they showed at The Game Awards, they believe first and foremost in the industry, and pushing it forward for the sake of the gamers.
In a chat with IGN, Reggie Fils-Aime talked about the importance of the moment on stage:
“Here’s what’s so important, from my perspective. Our industry is the most vibrant across all of entertainment. The opportunity to speak to all the players and to deliver a message of community, a message of inclusion, a message that all of us are looking to immerse ourselves in the best content, the best entertainment available today.
That was a really important message. And to drive home a thought of community and inclusion, that in many regards was carried throughout the entire show. I thought was really positive.”
Positivity was indeed shown, as well as talked about by many other award winners through the night. In fact, you could say that The Game Awards was one of the most anti-toxic video game shows ever because of everyone coming together to just appreciate video games. And that’s something to be praised.
