Call of Cthulhu, the adaptation of Chaosium’s pen-and-paper RPG is almost here and it has a launch trailer that showcases the game’s eerie atmosphere.
We talked about Call of Cthulhu many times before. That’s mostly because we’re sure that this is a proper Lovecraftian RPG. By that we mean that it isn’t a horror game about shooting and killing monsters. Lovecraftian’s work never included much combat in it. Most of the stories focused on showing the insignificance of the human race in the grand scheme of things.
Most other games that draw inspiration from those books miss the point. But, Call of Cthulhu seems like it’s going to show exactly what we wanted to see from a game that features the Old Ones. A disturbing and spine-chilling atmosphere, rich dialogue, lots of exploration, and a trip down insanity lane. It’s a game in which you play as a detective that’s plagued by his own personal demons and is on a quest to find out the truth about the death of Sarah Hawkins.
Unravel the thin line between dream and reality as the Great Dreamer prepares to awaken. For the most part, everything we’ve seen from the trailers gives us hope. Hope that Call of Cthulhu is going to be a game that faithfully showcases the maddening world of Lovecraft’s art. A launch trailer was released two days ago which perfectly encapsulates what madness looks like.
Those of you that aren’t familiar with Lovecraft’s work should keep an eye on this game. Especially if you like psychological horror.
