According to Nintendo, the gaming company will be opening up pre-orders for the SNES Classic this month, following on from Walmart accepting them in July, only to have to cancel them.
Preorders will be available across North America before the end of this month at a number of retailers, and there will be plenty of consoles to purchase at launch to give customers peace of mind, with more units to be fulfilled going forward. This is especially good news since the NES Classic was subject to heavy demand when it released last year, which saw a shortage around Christmas time of all times, and are now sold at inflated prices after the system was canceled.
This is clearly something that Nintendo has learned from, given that many fans were angry and disappointed that they couldn’t get hold of one of the NES Classic systems before they disappeared. Sure, the shortage does breed demand for each console they choose to release, but it does leave many missing out. The same strategy has been applied to the Nintendo Switch, which is also difficult to get a hold of from many retailers.
The SNES Classic is set for release next month on September 29th.
