The seasonal event for the summer in Overwatch has long been rumoured to be the return of the Summer Games. These events are just another helping of additional content, to a game that has already vastly expanded its roster with new characters, as well as regular updates, new game modes, maps and more being added to the popular Blizzard shooter.
This summer event in particular brought over a hundred new items, such as a new game mode called Lucioball, and a set of new hero skins. A year on, we could see its return after a live version of Overwatch was datamined, which revealed a new Summer Games event. Last year had a sports theme in recognition of the 2016 Olympics that were taking place at the time.
The data strings found seem to point towards a potential beach theme, as well as other clues that suggest that Lucioball could be making a return of some sorts. There have also been hints that there could be a console report system coming too, something that fans of that platform have requested for a long time now.
Time will tell if Blizzard decide to bring the Summer Games back, though from the evidence we’ve seen so far, its looking more than likely.
