How Anthem’s Story Will Expand After Launch
It’s not a stretch to say that Anthem has to be a big hit for Bioware. After the fallout from the release of Mass Effect Andromeda, and the fact that they’ve been working on Anthem for years now, and even delayed it twice so far, the game has to be good, and not just sell well, but be beloved by fans and critics alike. It’s by no means an impossible task, but it’s a meaningful one. And just as important is how Bioware is going to keep the game active after launch.
This was a big topic at PAX West, where Producer Michael Gamble talked about how the game will have “reactive storytelling” aspects, including how it focuses on characters.
“For Anthem, where we’d all like to see us head, is the ability to tell new great stories throughout the years, throughout the months after launch.”
What’s more, Gamble noted that the advancements they use in Anthem will affect future Dragon Age and Mass Effect titles.
And though coy, he did admit that the characters, the Agents, would have expanded stories themselves, or have changed stories via new characters:
“We can say, okay, now we’re going to expand the storyline for one of those Agents, or now that certain points in the game world have happened, this changes the relationship, this changes this character, this changes the type of missions for certain characters. Or even we add new characters, we add new Agents. We can do all that and Anthem gives us the tools to do all that.”
Later on, on Twitter, Gamble noted that Anthem does have a “main story” and that it will conclude by the time the game’s story ends. However, it leaves it open enough to continue it via its characters via DLC and expansion-like content.
The game is set to release next year.
