Fallout 76 Could Come To Steam, Just Not At Launch
When it comes to PC gaming, it’s almost always a good idea to put a digital version of the game on Steam. Steam, of course, is the gaming service by Valve that is one of the most popular gaming services out there, and it houses both AAA and indie games. So, if a title decides to skip Steam for whatever reason, it tends to raise eyebrows. And eyebrows were indeed raised when Bethesda said that Fallout 76 was not going to be on Steam…at the present time.
However, this led to rumors that the game, and future Bethesda titles, would not be on Steam ever. So, at QuakeCon 2018, Pete Hines of Bethesda explained the truth to IGN:
“We did not announce ‘all future Bethesda games will not be on Steam,’” Hines explained. “That is not what we said. We said ‘this game will be available exclusively on Bethesda.net.’”
As for games like Doom Eternal, there are no decisions either way on it.
“We haven’t decided on anything else, this is specific to Fallout 76 given the kind of game it is — it’s an online, ongoing game,” he continued. “[Doom Eternal] may or may not, but it hasn’t been decided on anything else yet.”
Going back to Fallout 76, Hines noted that the team wants to have a more personal touch when it comes to the game and how people get help for it:
“There are some different things that have happened or have come up where having everyone work directly with you does make things a little easier in terms of talking to your player base, having them talk to you,” Hines said. “I am 100% sure I know whose fault it is and whose problem it is when you’re having an issue with the game: it’s ours.”
Fallout 4 releases on November 14th for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
