No one knows what is actually happening with Quake Champions. But, as QuakeCon had news for all Bethesda games, it seems they had to announce something for this arena shooter as well.

Are you familiar with arena shooters? See, once upon a time, you didn’t have regenerating health in shooters. No no no, you had health packs and armor packs and ammo all over the map. You could also build up momentum as you kept moving. Things were different in the past when it came to shooters. Now, you have games like CS: GO, the Call of Duty franchise, the Battlefield franchise, and so on. Thankfully, we still have games like Quake Champions which still rock the old-school way of shooting.

Quake Champions

This game has been in Early Access for over 4 years or something like that, so we aren’t sure why the free2play model got suddenly introduced. We knew that Quake Champions would be a free2play title once it launched, but it is still in development. Maybe id Software needed any kind of news to announce at QuakeCon, so they went with this.

Now everyone can play the game, and it will stay that way forever. Judging from the player revies on its Steam page, things aren’t looking too good for this game. It seems like there haven’t been many improvements over the past few months, but a lot of microtransactions have been promoted. This isn’t helping the situation at all, but maybe going free2play will attract more players and fix things. You never know.
